Suddenly all social media went from “Bot who?” to how Bot is the 3rd digital wave (After Internet and Apps).
We at MindScroll have recently experimented with Bots with an Indian client and believe Bots really have chances of changing how we do stuffs on Internet, specially Learning.
Here the exact use case and how we solved it.
Client : A Solar Company, which helps reduce mobile tower expenses for mobile operators by converting them to solar from Diesel.
Problem : Guys on the ground are at 2–3 levels where the lowest one is a Technician. They have good working knowledge of Electrical Equipment but on job learning is limited in scope. They may not even have access to Computers and their primary internet device is the smart phone they own.
To teach/engage them the company had created Zone wise Whatsapp groups but it initially started off as a good discussion place but ended up being a group with lazy forwards. (Every one of us is in one of such groups on Whatsapp)
Solution : We recommended the client Slack and thought they didnt knew anything about Slack, convincing them that its “Whatsapp for Enterprise” helped.
The employees on the ground would be pushed a Question everyday at 7am in the morning.
You could reply by typing /answer and then 1/2/3/4 and our Learning Platform verifies your answer and provides you with relevant feedback.
Initially it took a long time to take off, convincing them to start using it but now we get around 70% self answers and on days we push/remind them, ~90%.
We also observed people pinging “Next Question”, “please send question for today” to the bot. Our bot was not smart enough to understand these but we see this as the next frontier. Pull learning, if it takes off ever in the formal Learning approach, would be in Conversational UX form.
